Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT DOES VOICEOVER ADJACENT MEAN?

We coined the term Voiceover Adjacent to describe any and all tasks that serve any voiceover business that are not done in front of a microphone. Voiceover Adjacent income streams are earned doing something for other voiceover businesses.

WHAT IS VA FOR VO?

VA For VO is a member-based Voiceover Adjacent business community that offers both business education and connections for people who want to either outsource tasks for their VO business or create Voiceover Adjacent streams of income from assisting other voiceover businesses.

WHAT IS THE HIRING PROCESS LIKE?

The hiring process is going to vary from VO to VO. VA For VO makes the connections but are not involved in the actual hiring.

VO members get over 3 hours of education on outsourcing decisions and working with a team and in those courses, we cover best practices for interviewing and hiring.

DO YOU TAKE A CUT ONCE THE VA IS HIRED?

No. VA For VO is an educational community with the added feature of making connections between Voiceover Adjacent Resource Providers (VAs) and VOs looking for assistance. Once we’ve made the connection, the rest is up to the VO and VA to work out, B2B. We don’t take any part of the fees agreed to between the 2 parties.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME A VA?

While there aren’t any formal requirements to become a VA, as a Voiceover Adjacent Resource Provider, you’re going to be a part of someone’s team. So, the key skills we RECOMMEND are being a reliable self-starter, maintaining an impeccable work ethic and being fun to work with.

WHAT DOES A VA DO?

The work that a VO may be looking to outsource in their voiceover business will vary VO to VO. Tasks range from virtual assisting with business tasks (email marketing, scheduling, invoicing, etc) to specific skill sets like audio editing, video creation, copywriting or social media content creation to limited tasks like lead generation. But really, the sky is the limit for what a VA specialist can decide to provide as part of their VA business.

WHAT IS THE HIRING PROCESS LIKE?

How many VOs you can effectively assist depends entirely on your available hours and skill sets – some VAs assist just one VO, others assist 3, 4, etc. Should you find that you’ve hit your limit, just let VA For VO know and we’ll make a note for any potential future connections. You are welcome to accept or reject whatever opportunities you’re connected with.

HOW MUCH WILL I GET PAID AS A VA?

VA For VO doesn’t set any rates for our Voiceover Adjacent Resource Providers. Once we’ve made the connection, the rest is up to the VO and VA to work out, B2B. As a VA, you are free to set your own rates and negotiate with the VOs you're connected with. We don’t take any part of the fees agreed to between the 2 parties.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO IN ORDER TO FIND A VA?

VA For VO makes it easy to connect with trained, eager Voiceover Adjacent Resource Providers who are looking to assist you in growing your VO business.

A VO membership includes listing one job opportunity with us. Tell us what you need and get up to 2 rounds of 3 possible candidates to interview from our VA member community. These members all get access to hours of business training in addition to whatever skills they bring to the table to make sure they are equipped to hit the ground running.

Once you’re ready to hire a SECOND Voiceover Adjacent Resource, a nominal fee allows you to list that opportunity and receive connections.

WHAT IS THE HOURLY RATE FOR WORKING WITH A VA?

VA For VO doesn’t set any rates for our Voiceover Adjacent Resource Providers. When you are listing your job opportunity, you have the option to include a budget and we encourage you to negotiate what works for you and your VA.

HOW DO I KNOW WHEN I SHOULD HIRE A VA?

This is an excellent question, and we dive in deep into its varied answers in our All About Outsourcing – Trade Time for Money course. This decision is going to depend on where you are in your voiceover career and will change over time as you find new areas where you’d like to expand and as your time is more and more consumed behind the microphone and less on other tasks
